The Cal Maritime men's basketball team earned a thrilling road victory over the University of Antelope Valley by a score of 85-78 on Thursday night in Lancaster. The win marks the team's sixth straight victory and moves the first place Keelhaulers to 9-2 in conference play.
Cal Maritime knew it was in for a battle as the home Pioneers went on a 16-2 first half run and led for a bulk of the first half. Capitalizing off numerous unforced Keelhauler turnovers, Antelope Valley looked to be in full control taking a 42-36 lead into halftime. Fortunately for the Keelhaulers, they came out of the halftime locker room with a renewed focus and intensity and scored 14 straight points to take the lead. The rest of half went back and forth but Cal Maritime made several clutch plays down the stretch to earn the 7 point victory.
Along with the key victory the other big news of the night came as senior Daniel Radford became the school's career scoring leader and is closing in on 1,000 career points with 3 regular season games remaining. As he has done all season, Radford continued his clutch play and scored 16 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Junior Phil Randles (21 points) and senior Travis Arenas (11 points) joined Radford in double figures. Justin Eisen and Mike Meserole also combined for 18 points and each made huge plays down the stretch to help the Keelhaulers' efforts.
Cal Maritime is back in action as they travel to Riverside to take on La Sierra University on Saturday night. Tip off is scheduled for 8:30pm.
