The Cal Maritime crew team raced at the 51st Head of the Charles regatta this past weekend, posting their best finish ever. The Keelhaulers were represented by the men's varsity four. The crew of Erin Bloom, Serge Balian, Sean Abbott, Ben Yuse, and LeighAnne Dones (coxswain) competed in the men's collegiate four against 45 other boats from across the country. The course was challenging for all the boats. In addition to winding 5 kilometers up the Charles River under seven bridges, the crews had to combat 17 mile-per-hour winds, which, because of the twists and turns in the course, affected boats in different ways along the course. The Keelhaulers had a strong race, finishing in the top 50% for the first time and guaranteeing them an automatic invitation to next year's regatta. The teams they finished ahead of included NYU, Marquette, Fordham, Trinity, and Vanderbilt, as well as Mass Maritime and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
