California Maritime Academy's Marv Christopher is the California Pacific Conference Athletics Director of the Year for the second year in a row, an honor bestowed by a vote of the conference's Executive Council.
Christopher, who recently completed his ninth year leading Cal Maritime, has overseen the continued rise of the Keelhaulers in the conference, including the recent addition of an upgraded soccer complex and the start of construction for a new athletic and aquatic center. In 2012-13, the Keelhaulers added cross country, improved in all of the conference-sponsored sports, and celebrated the men's basketball teams' historic achievement of winning back-to-back men's basketball titles and advancing to the second round of the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Championship.
With over 25 years of experience as an Athletic Director, Christopher also serves as the head golf coach at Cal Maritime, which hosted the 2013 Cal Pac championships. His insights and leadership have earned the respect of his peers, who honored him with this award.
"Marv is a terrific gentleman, a fantastic representative of his institution, and a good friend to the conference," said Cal Pac commissioner Don Ott. "We have a tremendous team of ADs in the Cal Pac, so this award really is something special since it comes from such a great group of leaders."
Christopher is responsible for the management and supervision of Cal Maritime's Department of Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation, which includes such intercollegiate and intramural sports programs as men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's crew, golf, rugby, sailing, men's and women's water polo and volleyball. Prior to his post at Cal Maritime, he served for 19 years as the director of athletics at Cazenovia College in Cazenovia, New York.
"I am truly honored to have been selected by my peers as the 2012-13 California Pacific Conference Athletic Director of the Year," said Christopher. "This honor comes to me only because of the support of Cal Maritime's administration, faculty and a very dedicated and hardworking coaching staff. I would like to thank my Cal Pac colleagues for this honor and for the pleasure of working with a very dedicated group of directors and a commissioner, whose vision for the Cal Pac Conference will afford a very bright future."
