After completing one of the best seasons in school history, Cal Maritime rugby coach Steve Hiatt was intent on securing an outstanding recruiting class to continue the program's success. An important piece of this recruiting class is Codi Jones. Jones, a senior from Torrey Pines High School, recently completed an award winning high school career and was rewarded for his efforts by being named to the USA Rugby Under-18 team that will travel to South America. As part of Team USA, Jones and his teammates will participate in games against Chile, Uruguay and Argentina.
When Jones was asked about being named to the National Team, he responded, " I am just so blessed to be given this opportunity and I just hope I can make my family and my teammates back home proud."
After finishing this remarkable experience representing his country, Codi will enroll at Cal Maritime in the Marine Transportation program starting in August. He will also play under the direction of Coach Hiatt as the Keelhaulers continue their very realistic quest for a National Championship.
Coach Hiatt expressed his excitement for Codi saying, " Codi's selection to the High School All-American touring side is not surprising in any way if you know Codi's work ethic on and off the field. He will superbly represent the US and the new generation of US rugby players starting to make their mark. His abilities and strong character will strengthen Cal Maritime Rugby and the Academy and we look forward to him joining us this fall."
